..is a fairly unknown tv series, specially for the general public.. even among sci-fi aficionados it’s not one of the most recognized effort.. it’s visuals are works of art, in pantones, in dressing or in framing, done with limited resources and that’s why everybody ussualy works harder and happier and that’s why it works well and tastes so good..
..not very simple to follow, nor rather complex, the screenplay follows evenly along episodes that seem tame and that takes its time, just as life does.. then simple things are described in a way that can be neglected by the passing eye, but that appears as a joy of understatement to the seeing eye..
..it has a flair which grows on you and without great fuss it becomes a ride well worth to take..
..hey, maybe some material is corny, but that just adds at the knowing ambiance which nerds welcome..

..aaltra is indeed a somewhat different kind of movie, not exactly because is something out of this world, but probably because it is of this world in its daring cynical approach and mostly for being as left-field as a movie can measure to be.. not an easy one to get through without the right frame of mind, we guess..
..the lead characters are true scum of the earth, low-life bastards, deserving all the scorn they deserve. Don’t know if that was intended but we’ll always have this one to point out when talking about the least enjoyable anti-heroes on film ever..

..somehow, the potential is there.. the under acting is on the spot, the camera work is not proficient but adequate, the thin as paper screenplay is no problem.. however it lack momentum, some rhythm stitching the scenes unto an all, maybe a handful of equally pointless scenes to make the point/the stand of in-your-face dark humor are missing..
..OD recommends the viewing, don’t get it wrong, there are some very cool scene to make us smirk.. it’s just heartbreaking seeing something that could have been grand falling short due maybe some over confidence from the authors.. there was nothing to lose, so why not go nuts all the way, you lame tetraplegic bastards..

..the composition is free of all constrains that fado usually convey. His music is dense, sometimes even impenetrable to the casual listener, but to the hardcore music lover this is as close to a vastness of details as to hearing waves bursting into shore in all their nuances of sound..

..the edition is comprise of two cd’s . the first of studio recordings of themes from Ricardo Rocha, where we can get mesmerized by the quality of his pursue for ‘something else’, and some of his versions of themes from masters like Carlos Paredes, Artur Paredes and Pedro Caldeira Cabral. The second was recorded live at Olga Cadaval, Sintra, and displays piano composition by Rocha, played with feeling by Ingeborg Baldaszti..

..not an easy listening, it build on the tension of complexity, unexpected hints that demands complete attention from the listener.. I’ll go to say that it treats the listener as an intelligent being capable of apprehend all that is going on using a single instrument, not for the sake of technicality, but using it to express higher planes of aural sensation..

atom age vampire

..an absurdly interesting flick that has little to do with the so call vampire, but which could have been named ‘atom age jeckyl and hyde’ to be faithful to what’s really going on..

..surprising mostly based on some long dialog scenes, it does not forget the monster touch and it succedes in a certain balance between the typical science movie beast and the suspense of a crime story atmosphere of dysfunctional love triangles..

..a low budget movie made with panache..

..peculiar piece of film, it has as many interesting moments as it has easily avoidable flaws that toss it into a not so dubious ditch.. continuity (and, every so often, logic) is a foreigner concept in this one and it almost contributes to its flair, but some absurd notions of editing take away many of its good sequences..

..sometimes it seems it’s going to be a great movie, others it seems it’s a piece of crap, which does make a good experience if you neglect the ending, the same that was intended to excuse the screenplay shortcomes..

..not fully accomplished, probably due to its obvious lack of production values (i.e. money), but, hey, nevertheless, a good overall atmosphere due in part to a peculiar background soundtrack and a simple effective presentation of characters, with more than a few nice ideas that prequel some famous movies that came along in the years after and some that are passing for “original” nowadays..

..more than its concerted display of horror clichés than were not in 76, the strength of this work is in it having a gothic flavor without the “gothic”..

..we would like to see a remake from some of the younger guys directing some classics from the 70’s and 80’s. It could be a upgraded ride..

..enjoyability: 1, maybe 2/4 for newbies, 4/4 for horror history junkies..

.. particular unwatchable by most standards, not particular because of its rape subject, at least not in this blog, but mainly because it’s so artistic crude it’s not even arty, except for the performance of Keaton, and the sustained logic of time (70 min of film on one idea only) ..

..De Indringer is the last Flemish movie we saw..produced in 2005, it shows some similarities (leitmotif wise, the search for a disappeared daughter) to the Portuguese film ‘Alice’ from the same year, but resemblances end there, for the productions values here send this to a higher ground..the first hour is really engaging and displays a flair for unfolding drama worth of the best suspense flicks but what really stands out is the anti-climax at the end.. instead of giving what was expected the screenplay turns over to a simple clarification, just has life often gives.. a well worth movie to watch and a unusual one for Belgian cinematography..

..the plot has some fine moments but some low key editing gets in the way.. there’re some expressionist scenes and a feeling of late night episode of occult tv series flair.. we kind of wish evil wins but morals get in the way, personified by a insipid heroine that’s as fragile as the male lead is barely credible..

..In the 60’s satanic cults and devil worship became a customary topic for horror films, this one being a typical example of the lot.. not much here but the historic empathy that may interest to a few of us..

..episode 4, 6 and 8 of skins (season3) is a good example of how to write and shoot a quality teenage series. the fourth grows in craziness and good humor and fells into a dramatic down.. the others are a unusual mixture of genre movie translated into a pimples kid’s haven..

..the fans gave both of then a score of 9.2 superb, but you know how fans are like and sometimes it’s good to feel part of the ranks, even if it just feel foolish..

..i’ve read that this is the weaker of seasons but when he gave me the series to watch my friend hugo said it is the best .. as I tend to believe him best, I can only guess that too much sex, drugs and indie music on a teen show can causes disturbances in parental forces..

.. I’ll suggest the full experience mode by watching all episodes in one single day, and take a look at the track list.. if the story doesn’t suits you, the music most certainly will..
